Meet Pat Burns
Pat Burns is a lifelong public servant, devoted family man, and proud Huntington Beach resident—guided by duty, family, and honor.

PAT'S STORY
Born and raised on the east side of Long Beach, Pat was the fourth of five boys in a hardworking, lower-middle-class home. His father, originally from New York, met Pat’s mother while in the Army stationed in France, where she was raised in the countryside. Their story shaped Pat’s upbringing—grounded in discipline, gratitude, and respect for service.
As a young man, Pat played baseball, surfed, and wrestled through high school and college, learning resilience and accountability. At just 20 years old, he became a police officer with the Long Beach Police Department and went on to serve nearly 30 years. His career included patrol, the department’s helicopter unit, undercover narcotics investigations, and leadership roles as Sergeant and Lieutenant. He concluded his service in the Port Police Unit, retiring with pride after decades of honorable service.
Pat has been married to his wife for nearly 4 decades. Together they have two daughters, a son-in-law, a granddaughter, three dogs, and a cat. He has lived in Huntington Beach for more than 32 years, building deep roots in the community he now serves.
While working full-time, Pat earned an Associate’s Degree, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minor in French, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He has volunteered extensively on boards, committees, and commissions, believing that strong communities depend on people willing to step up.
NOW & THE FUTURE
In 2022, Pat was encouraged to run for Huntington Beach City Council. He won and works every day to serve residents, businesses, and visitors with integrity and common sense. Pat believes community comes before self, public service comes before politics, and decisions should always be made for the right reasons. He is committed to protecting Huntington Beach’s future and defending local control—because Huntington Beach should be governed by the people who live here, not dictated from Sacramento
